Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: FAQ

Why should I have massage?

Massage is one of the oldest therapies having been around for about 4000 years and still used extensively to this day. It has huge benefits on all systems of the body and assists in our overall health, not just for pamper & relaxation. Massage can help maintain our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing and help us to reconnect with our body. When our soft tissue doesn't function properly it can cause pain and discomfort, weakness, postural deformity and reduced mobility all of which benefit from massage therapy.

What is Sports Massage?

Sports and remedial massage comprises a number of different techniques to manipulate the soft tissue in the body to release tension and pain in muscles, improve drainage of waste products and improve posture and flexibility. Techniques such as Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Soft Tissue Release and Muscle Energy Techniques are combined to correct the problems/imbalances caused by repetitive or strenuous activity or injury.

I don't play sports, can I still have a sports massage?

Absolutely, Sports massage is not just for sporting injuries and can be very effective in relieving tension, headaches, back pain, shoulder injuries, neck stiffness and much more. It is therefore appropriate for anyone needing soft tissue or remedial work regardless of age, level of fitness or gender.

Is massage suitable for everyone?

Despite the benefits of massage, there may be times when it's not suitable for you to receive a treatment due to certain conditions. If during your consultation I feel that treatment wouldn't be right for you or there is a different health care professional to refer you to there would be no charge. Please get in touch if you want to discuss anything further.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

Shorts and a vest/strappy top are ideal and a standard bra underneath (not sports bras unless they unfasten) however for your comfort I can work around these. Please rest assured your comfort and dignity is of the highest priority whilst I provide your treatment. Please avoid heavy/large meals before hand and bring a bottle of water with you for afterwards!

Is Sports Massage really painful?

Sports Massage should not be overly painful or unpleasant. I ensure that tissues are warmed thoroughly before deeper work is undertaken and communicate with you throughout to ensure your comfort is maintained and the treatment is suitable.

Who are you insured with?
